Ollie Whitehead
"I think it all began when my Dad bought me a copy of Transworld Photo Issue in 2001. I had no knowledge of photography at that point but as an impressionable 15 year old sat reading assiduously through the magazine I often wondered how on earth they got photos like that.
It continued to puzzle me until 2 years later I saw Leo out in Manchester shooting a photo. As soon as he peeled back the Polaroid test I knew straight away that's exactly what I wanted to do.
After dropping out of studying Law, Psychology and English at college the only direction I cared about was being able to shoot photos like the ones I saw in the countless magazines I picked up each month. I brushed off the idea of formal training for the old fashioned method of burning through film and learning from my mistakes with a little help from my elders.
4 years down the line since my first real camera, I work a full time job purely so that I can keep on shooting skateboarding. Keep putting film in my camera and petrol in the tank to clock up miles nationwide."

Mark Baines - Nollie Flip by Ollie Whitehead
I'd always put off going to this place for that reason. It's never a good idea to put yourself in the dangerzone. But if I was going to risk my life it would be for a worthy trick no doubt. This thing curves around, so it's not just a straight drop in. I like to think of it as a really grim, Northern English version of the blue wave at Marie D'Ivry in Paris.
It's strange how you perceive a place and then when you get there it's totally different. I've never met so many friendly passers by at a spot before."

Carl Shipman - Frontside Tailslide by Ollie Whitehead
The ominous looking clouds in the sky didn't lie, and 5 minutes later the bowl looked more like a swimming pool."

Joe Gavin - Switch Bluntslide by Ollie Whitehead
It's funny that not only did Joe come to me with this spot, but he then proceeded to do one of the hardest conceivable moves on it. What makes it harder is the fact that it's 10 feet of downhill runup to a rail that goes upwards.
It's not every day that spots show up with a big wheel in the background. Getting him centred in the wheel was a case of moving a couple of inches left, and then back again..."
This picture made the front cover of Sidewalk Skateboarding magazine and no, it's not the Shell Centre in London!

Snowy - Backside Flip by Ollie Whitehead
I'd only met Snowy 2 days previous to this. So this was the first thing we shot. The day before this we showed up at the spot and literally everyone in the London scene was there. I saw him pop a few ollies over it and suggested that we come back the next day to shoot a kickflip.
I'd managed to roll my ankle at this place, so was more than keen to sit down behind the lens.
It was the hottest day of the year and Snowy was clearly melting in the midday sun.
This photo always reminds me of the week my car broke down in central London and was broken into outside Fos' house. Then the same night me and Alan Glass witnessed a stabbing outside his flat in Brixton."

Chris Oliver - Backlip by Ollie Whitehead
From what I remember, I think Chris had to literally be bullied by myself and Kev Parrott to do something on this, despite the fact it came so easy for him. We dug all the rubble out to secure the rail properly, as it was flapping all over. Half an hour later we were all set...
The sun was shining brightly but as he started trying the clouds drew over to reveal a post-apocalyptic feel."
